THE DEAD DAISIES TO RELEASE LIVE CD/DVD -‘LIVE AND LOUDER’

‘Live And Louder’, The Dead Daisies’ highly-anticipated live outing, set for release on May 19th on Spitfire Music / SPV, perfectly captures the awesome vibe of their supreme, sweat drenched, roof-raising live sets, recorded on a heady high at the end of an unbelievable 2016.

From the moment they dropped their first single ‘Long Way To Go’ ahead of their European Festival Summer in June, the hits just kept on coming. The 2nd single ‘Join Together’ ramped up the release of the third studio album ‘Make Some Noise’. The band were well underway touring the USA with KISS, a tour that finished with a sold-out headline show at LA’s prestigious Whisky A Go-Go.

The next single ‘Song And A Prayer’, was released with an accompanying short-film, refocused attention and rang in the final, massive touring phase of the year which saw the band go to Japan for the first time, where they immediately became media and fan darlings and went down a storm at the world-famous Loud Park festival. A string of dates in Korea for the USO and, as the year’s grand finale, a massive UK & European Co-Headline Tour that played 30+ shows to sold-out venues.

The ‘Daisies’ as they are affectionately referred to by their fans, quickly became people’s favourite live band with their relentless energy, stellar musicianship and unabashed joy in bringing the rock back into roll. The big question at signing sessions after each show and on the band’s social media channels continued to be: “When will there be a live album?”. People simply could not get enough of them live.

Not to turn down a good opportunity, the band recorded a number of shows on the UK & European Tour and, with the team that already made ‘Make Some Noise’ blow speakers worldwide. The album was mixed by Anthony Focx (Aerosmith, Bad Company, Metallica, Santana) at Focxhole Studios and mastered by Howie Weinberg. They assembled a true monster in the vein of the great Live Albums of the 70s. You can feel the sweat drip from the ceilings, the energy of the crowd becoming one with the band, screaming, hollering and forgetting about the often mundane reality for a night of true Rock’n’Roll. Warts ’n all, ‘LIVE & LOUDER’ is a document of a band in their prime, a raw slice of visceral energy, an in-your-face assault on the senses. Simply: THE DEAD DAISIES in their element and at their best!

Lead singer John Corabi adds: “We’re extremely excited and proud of our new album ‘LIVE & LOUDER’!!! A lot of the fans have been writing to us and saying how much they LOVED our records but were even more blown away by the band live!!! So this documents our last U.K./European tour, and also shows the world how truly loud and supportive The Dead Daisies fans are!!!! Thank you and Turn It Up!!!!”

‘LIVE & LOUDER’ will be released in a number of different, exciting formats. Again, the band listened to what the fans wanted and added a spectacular vinyl as well as a limited-edition box set that features, among other cool trinkets, an exclusive 7” vinyl single recorded at The Zoo at Planet Rock Radio’s highly coveted London fan-only gig in November 2016.

 “LIVE & LOUDER” Formats:

SLAM DUNK FESTIVAL SOUTH – BANK HOLIDAY MONDAY 29TH MAY – HATFIELD, THE FORUM

Following the monumental news last week that Madina Lake are reforming to play Slam Dunk Festival 2017 to mark their 10th anniversary, we are pumped to reveal a whole host of new acts joining the bill.

Added to the already stellar line up are alt-rock stars Deaf Havana, punk powerhouse Frank Iero and the Patience and rock favourites We Are The Ocean, in addition to The Maine, Crime in Stereo, Sorority Noise, Too Close To Touch, WSTR, Seaway, Boston Manor and Stray From The Path.

The last few years have been busy for Deaf Havana, having supported Bruce Springsteen and broken into the UK Top 10. But 2017 is set to be even bigger, as in January they released their fourth studio album ‘All These Countless Nights’, announced their much anticipated international tour, and are now revealed to play Slam Dunk Festival 2017!

Formed by the former guitarist for My Chemical Romance, Frank Iero and the Patience is a punk rock band taking the world by storm, having toured with the likes of the Used, Taking Back Sunday and Mallory Knox. With a handful of UK dates this month, they return this summer for their Slam Dunk Festival debut.

We Are The Ocean’s performance at Slam Dunk Festival 2017 will be bittersweet, given the emotional news that they will be calling it quits this year. But we are over the moon that their last ever shows will be with us, as they are a firm Slam Dunk favourite, and have played the festival more times than any other band. Hold tight, it’s going to be an emotional rollercoaster but a fitting last hurrah.

Arizona’s heartthrobs The Maine also join the line-up, and will no doubt bring with them new material from their upcoming album Lovely, Little, Lonely set to drop in April this year.

The Maine’s John O’Callaghan says:
“The British aren’t necessarily known for their basketball prowess, but they are known for their domination over rock n roll. Which is why we can’t wait to score a homerun and shoot a touchdown at Slam Dunk with this gnarly lineup.”

Also announced today are Crime in Stereo, Long Island’s answer to hardcore punk, Connecticut’s Sorority Noise who will bring their anthemic brand of emo to the festival, and Too Close To Touch – whose solid blend of pop and post-hardcore will get crowds going.

UK pop-punk new bloods WSTR will join Canadian heavyweights Seaway and homegrown front-runners Boston Manor in one of the most highly-anticipated appearances this summer. Bringing the heavy, Long Island metalcore titans Stray From The Path will also be appearing across the weekend.

On their return to the festival, Henry Cox of Boston Manor says:
“We’re really looking forward to playing this year’s Slam Dunk. The festival last year was a real highlight for us. This year is going to be more sweaty and more intense.”

A nationwide invitation to party in the name of the alternative, Slam Dunk Festival is rite of passage for lovers of pop-punk and rock music and is a key date in the festival calendar. Kicking off in Birmingham on May 27th, the festival will travel to Leeds on May 28th before finishing up in Hatfield on May 29th, once again ensuring the Slam Dunk Bank Holiday Weekend is the only place to be to catch all your favourite bands.

Slam Dunk is set to get even bigger and better in 2017 with the addition of the First Direct Arena in Leeds as the second stage, a second outdoor stage in Hatfield and an expanded site in Birmingham, ensuring more die-hard fans can savour the Slam Dunk experience than ever before. With tickets on sale now, and still more acts to be announced, Slam Dunk Festival is set to define 2017 with the ultimate alternative party of the summer.

“…aptly demonstrates Skolnick’s exceptional musical abilities” (Jazz Review)

“A wonderful display of rock infused jazz” (Dublin Concerts)

“Go expecting the unexpected.” (Times Union)

“Alex is not your average, everyday shredding guitarist. In reality, he defies categorization by musical genre.” (Making Music)

“Alex Skolnick is that rare thing, a passionate, innovative and adventurous guitarist.” (GRTR UK)

“Originals & metal covers converted into jazz with highly satisfying results.  Sumptuous, technically proficient music” (Egigs.co.UK)

Though Alex Skolnick may be well known as the guitarist of the legendary thrash metal band Testament (which he joined at age sixteen, left in the early 1990s and returned to in 2005), these days, more and more recognize him as a “musician’s musician” for whom terms such as shredder, thrasher etc don’t paint the full picture. Describing him as a “genre-defying guitar hero” for a 2015 cover story, Making Music Magazine said: “Though he’s pretty much a household name in heavy metal, Alex is not your average, everyday shredding guitarist. In reality, he defies categorization by musical genre.” (Making Music, Jan 2015).

For evidence, one needn’t look any further than the Alex Skolnick Trio (AST). AST blends the conviction of rock with the elegance and sophistication of jazz. Conceived while Alex was pursing his jazz degree from New York’s New School University, AST are known for their sophisticated re-harmonisations of classic hard rock and heavy metal songs, along with originals whose depth, humour and character are enthralling to fans across the musical spectrum, achieving legitimacy in the eyes (and ears) of sceptics while converting first-time jazz listeners to the pleasures of music without mosh pits.

The trio’s 2011 album, Veritas, reached the Top Ten of the iTunes jazz charts at no.7, positioned between Dave Brubeck and Esperanza Spalding and was released via the esteemed jazz label, Palmetto Records.  Since their 2002 debut, AST has been honoured with 4 ½ stars by Downbeat, reviewed by Jazziz, The Village Voice, has charted on the Jazz Week radio charts and enjoyed its status among the greats as an NPR Jazz Daily Pick feature.

Fans of the group include international superstars Rodrigo y Gabriella., who have taken the trio on tour, and Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo (a noted jazz fan and producer of the upcoming Jaco Pastorius documentary) who joined the band for an impromptu jam at Radio City Music Hall. AST was also the main support band on Rodrigo Y Gabriela’s consecutive European and US tour in 2010, including five sold-out nights in London.

Skolnick’s additional instrumental work include his acclaimed 2014 album “Planetary Coalition” (including Horacio “El Negro” Hernandez, Kiran Ahluwalia and many others), “What’s Next?” – a jazz duo album by New York pianist-composer Randy Klein and several stints as a first-call guitarist for electric bass hero, Stuart Hamm. 2016 also saw, after four acclaimed studio albums, the release of the first AST live CD, ‘Live Unbound’. This album contains live versions of two of their reimagined remakes (Aerosmith’s “Dream On” and Scorpions’ “Still Loving You”) along with a few songs from their last couple studio efforts.  The CD kicks off with two brand new tracks, “Unbound” and “Culture Shock”!

“This recording says that we don’t have much use for limitations,” says Skolnick. “Our live performances can take us anywhere, from the spirit of quintessential jazz guitar trios to distortion and chaos. It’s all possible. We realized that the live element has been such an important part of what we do, but it’s just never been captured before and it’s never been put out. We have these great new songs that we wanted to do as well, so it just made sense to release them as live versions. (The album) gives us a chance to sort of re-introduce some of the material from earlier albums, but the way we play it live, even if you don’t get to catch us in concert.”
