Live at Leeds – The Magic Gang, Ash, Pulled Apart By Horses and many more added to 2018 lineup

Live At Leeds 2018

As 2018’s festival season draws ever closer, Live At Leeds is once again standing as the ultimate destination to hear the very best in new music and stunning live favourites – adding a huge raft of names from across the musical landscape.

One of the most acclaimed new guitar bands of recent times, The Magic Gang have become unrivalled leaders of soaring indie anthems. Triggering singalongs no matter where they go, the Brighton natives have burst their way into hearts with the likes of ‘Alright’, ‘All This Way’ and ‘Jasmine’ as a band born for huge live moments. With their debut album set to emerge this year, their appearance at Live At Leeds is primed to be the crowning of future indie royalty, and sure to be one of the most talked about sets of the day.

Speaking about joining the bill, The Magic Gang said:

“Can’t wait for Live at Leeds! Last year’s show at Church was one of our favourites from 2017, ur always bringing it Leeds.”

Not only bringing the essential sounds for the year ahead to the city, but also championing the thriving music scene that flows through its streets, Live At Leeds 2018 sees one of its adored favourites return in the shape of Pulled Apart By Horses. Packed with a menacing punch of garage-rock fever, they’ve become renowned for adrenaline-fused live shows and an uncompromising ability to have crowds in the palm of their hands in no time. With 2018 marking 10 years together as a band, expect Pulled Apart By Horses set at Live At Leeds 2018 to be nothing short of unmissable. With equally huge choruses to boot, 90s heroes Ash are sure to bring a tour-de-force of infectious hits from across their storied career. Expect ‘Girl From Mars’, ‘Goldfinger’ and ‘Shining Light’ to erupt crowds when their phenomenal live show rolls into Live At Leeds 2018.

Speaking about the Live At Leeds 2018, Pulled Apart By Horses said:

“We’ve haven’t played LAL for a few years now and it’s been going from strength to strength since we last appeared on the bill. It made sense to come back to it this year though. We’re always buzzing to be part of it and nothing beats a good old hometown show. Roll on May!”

Guitar legends Ash said:

“We’re buzzing to be announced for the 2018 Live at Leeds line up; it’s already looking like an amazing bill and it’s an honour to be added for our first appearance alongside some great artists. Expect a set full of classic Ash hits alongside some exclusive surprises. We’re Buzzing for it!”

Packed with thrilling new names, Live At Leeds is a coming together of the most anticipated emerging talent you’ll be hearing talked about again and again in 2018 and beyond. Bound for a huge year ahead, Ten Tonnes will bring his vibrant and punchy garage hooks to the city, likewise Liverpool’s own Louis Berry is set for a defining Live At Leeds moment when his rockabilly charms take over the city, with London’s alt-guitar buzzers Sorry set to continue their talked-about rise with a set that pushes the boundaries of what a guitar band can be in 2018. Frantic energy and glorious pandemonium are guaranteed with Doncaster’s Yungblud, swooning dream-pop will light the way with Her’s and the eclectic musical blendings of Alaskalaska will leave your jaw firmly on the floor – all serving up invigorating and talked-about sets from bands tuly thriving in original flavours.

Speaking about joining the bill, Louis Berry said:

“I love Leeds man. It’s a boss place! Playing up north in general is on fire, but Leeds is definitely one of the cities that stands out. I’ve always had great gigs there, from small venues to festivals. I’m looking forward to playing Live at Leeds this year and things will be a lot different this time. Let’s have it!”

Yungblud commented on his appearance, saying:

“I’m fucking BUZZING to come back home and play this festival!! My boy Lewis Capaldi is playing as well and we’ve literally not seen each other in months, finally we’ll be able to catch each other’s sets”

Across the city, Live At Leeds 2018 is crammed with sensational sounds from across the musical spectrum. From the swooning country croons of Catherine McGrath, the unmistakable punk-showmanship of Sports Team and the hypnotic tones of Grace Lightman to the snarling visceral ferocity of TOUTS, the lo-fi fuzz of Stella Donnelly and the gritty glam-soaked tide of The Ninth Wave – there’s always something new and different around every corner. Beach hooks are bound to land in style when Sunset Sons return to Live At Leeds, with hip-hop morpher Denzel Himself, Dutch favourites Pip Blom, anthemic songwriter Dermot Kennedy, art-rock newcomers Caro, the raw emotions of Bruno Major and Kent trio Lady Bird all set to kick off their summer at Live At Leeds. With the likes of Nelson Can, LUCIA, Queen Zee, Fling and many more also announced, Live At Leeds 2018 is the only place to go to find your next favourite act.

Sunset Sons said about their return to Live At Leeds:

“We’re buzzing to be getting back on the road for our first UK festival show for 2018 at Live at Leeds. Loads of new tunes as well. See ya down the front!!”

Leeds’ own Caro said:

“Dead chuffed to be playing Live at Leeds again, always a big highlight of the year for us.”

Queen Zee said about joining the lineup:

“Live at Leeds gives us a brilliant line up year after year, to be a part of it is an honour. Especially excited to catch The Horrors”.

Brighton favourites The RPMs said:

“We’re fired up to be making our Live At Leeds debut this year, so many brilliant bands have come through LAL and we can’t wait to jump into the fray and crack out some of our new tunes. Apparently, we’re ‘mashing up synthpop, dance with the hookiness of big pop and a wee dose of introspective ambience with high-powered energy’, but mainly we’re just lining up “flickering indie pop sprinkled bombshells” to explode in your ears”…apparently.”

Hatchie said:

“I spent my 21st birthday watching bands at Live at Leeds a couple of years ago so I’m super excited to be heading back this May to play our first UK show!”

Tyne said:

“Super excited to be playing in Leeds with so many golden artists and bands. Can’t wait to be a part of this line up in May. Bring it on!”

Moncrieff said:

“I’m buzzing to get lairy at Live at Leeds 2018. The festival has hosted loads of my favourite artists in the past and the line up again this year is sick.”

These names join an already stunning bill leading the way in new music and future superstars, from returning game-changers such as Circa Waves, Peace and The Horrors to trailblazing new favourites such as Pale Waves, Blaenavon, Spring King, Anteros, Lewis Capaldi, Tom Walker, Sam Fender, Will Heard, Grace Carter, Boy Azooga, whenyoung, Bloxx and many more – Live At Leeds is the celebration of new music that 2018 needs, and the first place to hear the essential sounds it has to offer.

Speaking about the new additions to Live At Leeds 2018, Festival Director Andy Smith said:

“We’re pleased to add The Magic Gang, Pulled Apart by Horses, Ash, Dermot Kennedy, Sunset Sons, Louis Berry and High Tyde to the 2018 event, all of which are doing great things at the moment. There are also some really exciting emerging artists who I personally think will go on to have fantastic careers like Bruno Major, Catherine McGrath, Ten Tonnes, Cassia and Stella Donnelly, to name a few. There’s still plenty more to be announced for this year and maybe a few surprises along the way.”

The festivities of the Live At Leeds weekend are set to kick off on the Friday night (May 4th) with a very special showcase presented by PRS Foundation’s Momentum Music Fund Showcase at The Wardrobe – featuring appearances from supported artists such as Our Girl, Chelou, Fenne Lily and very special guest headliners to be revealed shortly. Slam Dunk 2018

One of 2017’s most guarded secrets can now be revealed… Slam Dunk Festival will have not one, but two major headline artists! Pop-punk titans Good Charlotte will be joining the previously announced emo-rock legends Jimmy Eat World. Their co-headline performance is set to be a defining moment for the festival as it marks the Slam Dunk Festival debut of both show-stopping artists.

This ground-breaking line-up news will also see PVRIS, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes, Creeper, Thursday, Every Time I Die, Knuckle Puck, Crown The Empire and Real Friends, perform momental live sets over the May Bank Holiday weekend.

From bursting into the public consciousness with their chart-conquering pop punk through to becoming true kings of their genre via stints on MTV and six huge studio albums, few bands have had the staying power of Good Charlotte. Lead by the Madden brothers Benji and Joel, the multi-platinum stars will be at Slam Dunk to prove exactly why they’ve stayed at the top of their game over the past two decades.

Few bands have had the stratospheric rise of Massachusetts three piece PVRIS. Since their inception in 2012 they’ve gone from strength to strength and garnered a legion of fans in the process. Next year they’ll bring their signature anthemic rock, as found on this year’s acclaimed full length ‘All We Know Of Heaven, All We Need Of Hell’, to Hatfield, Leeds and Birmingham for a show that’s not to be missed. They last played the festival in 2015, after which being originally booked for the new bands stage were upgraded to the main stage due to their sudden rise in popularity. Now they return in 2018 to be one of the festival’s biggest artists.

One of the most incendiary live acts on the planet, Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes are a band born to reach staggering heights. After standing as one of the most recognisable voices in modern British rock over the past decade, Frank and his Rattlesnakes have had a mammoth rise over the past 18 months – releasing two vastly acclaimed albums, capturing festival audiences with sets of the weekends and culminating in their biggest headline show to date at London’s Brixton Academy. Witness the revolution first hand when they take the stage at Slam Dunk 2018.
Frank Carter says:
‘I cannot wait to play Slam Dunk – this has been an incredible couple of years for us, and I can’t think of a better way to start our festival season in 2018 than showing up and absolutely dominating at Slam Dunk. Get ready – we’ll see you in the Snake pit!’
A phenomenon not seen for many a-year, Creeper are the hottest name in alternative music. The release of their debut album ‘Eternity, In Your Arms’ captured the mysterious yet anthemic heights that they’ve been promising since they first emerged on the scene. Lead from the charismatic figure of frontman Will Gould, Creeper aren’t just set to break through but takeover British alternative music – and Slam Dunk 2018 is bound to be another insatiable introduction to the special world they’re forming
Creeper say:
“It is with great excitement that we can announce today that we will be returning to Slam Dunk festival in 2018. Slam Dunk is always such an important event for our scene each year, and it is an incredible privilege to be playing the main stage. See you all there!”
After seven years away, Thursday will return to the UK in 2018, with Slam Dunk Festival the only place to catch one of the most hotly-anticipated reunions in alt-rock history. Lead by the inimitable presence of frontman Geoff Rickly, Thursday reached out and touched at the hearts and minds of a generation – with records like ‘Full Collapse’ and ‘War All The Time’ still heralded as some of the most influential snapshots in time that the genre has ever seen. After time spent apart, and a feverish demand for their return – Slam Dunk 2018 is primed for a truly special moment as Thursday finally return to prove just why they sit in a class of their own. Having having played the very first Slam Dunk Festival in 2007, it is indeed a momentous welcome back!
Geoff Rickly of Thursday says:
“From the very first moment Thursday started playing shows again, we began to ask each other, ‘How can we get back to the UK?!’ Well, we have finally found a way.  We’re very happy to be joining some of our oldest friends at Slam Dunk and we have a bunch of surprises still in store.  See you soon.  Stay tuned. “

After last playing Slam Dunk in 2016, metalcore titans Every Time I Die can’t stay away and have promised more chaos in the moshpit than ever before. The Buffalo hardcore heavyweights have gained vast recognition on this year’s UK tour run, selling out the likes of KOKO, receiving 5Ks and delivering a visceral display of their force. Their performance will be an unmissable part of Slam Dunk 2018.
Keith Buckley of Every Time I Die says:
“We’ve played just about every festival there is, indoor and out, and when the only complaint you have of Slam Dunk is: there are too many good bands playing to see all the ones you want, you know you’re a part of something great. we’re comin back and we’re bringing the heat. don’t miss it.”
Joining these incredible names will be Crown The Empire, Real Friends and Knuckle Puck, all of which are set to return to the festival after memorable performances in 2014 and 2015. All three acts are set to serve up the perfect combination of anthemic metalcore complete with razor-sharp riffs, energetic post-emo choruses and classic pop-punk with an Illinois twist,  May is set to deliver the best Slam Dunk Festival to date!
Kevin Maida of Knuckle Puck says:
“We’re pumped to come back to the UK, let alone to play Slam Dunk for a second time. The first Slam Dunk we played was one of the best experiences we had overseas and we’re excited to make some new memories.”

After its most successful year to date in 2017, Slam Dunk Festival has been crowned the Best Metropolitan Festival at the UK Festival Awards! The news comes after the first huge names were announced for 2018, along with details of an expanded and new site for Slam Dunk South at Hatfield Park.

Over double the size of the previous location, Hatfield Park is located in the grounds of Hatfield House and situated directly opposite Hatfield train station, making it even more accessible and accommodating for festival goers wishing to revel in Slam Dunk Festival’s alternative extravaganza.

Festival Director, Ben Ray comments:
“I’m very happy to win this award of course. The event that we put on is very unique, with each of the 3 metropolitan sites offering something different….The fenced off festival site built in a city centre in Leeds, the only multistage music festival to be held on the NEC complex and I’m glad after 8 years on the university campus in Hatfield we could win the award for them the final time there.”

Slam Dunk Festival 2018 will begin in its spiritual home of Leeds, Millennium Square, before travelling to the new location of Hatfield Park, and finishing at the beloved Birmingham NEC.

After the sold-out success of 2017, Live At Leeds is set to return on May 5th 2018 once again bringing the most exciting names and sounds to the city for a true coming together of the best in new music.

The starting gates of the summer festival season, Live At Leeds has become a go-to destination to see the artists that’ll be making their mark in the months and years ahead. Guaranteed to provide festival-goers their next favourite band, the multi-venue event has previously played host to the likes of The 1975, Bastille, James Blake, Years & Years, Rudimental, Stormzy, Sam Smith, Ed Sheeran, Rag ‘n’ Bone Man and more on their way to global acclaim.

Leading the way in 2018 are some of the most exciting British bands of recent times, continuing their unprecedented journeys to the top. Peace are a true revolution, taking 90s soaked guitar-pop to glorious heights each and every time they step on stage. Since emerging out of the B-Town scene in Birmingham, they’ve played some of the biggest stages in the world, capturing the sound of a generation with debut album ‘In Love’ and then again on follow-up ‘Happy People’. Signalling their hotly anticipated return in 2018, expect their set at Live At Leeds to be an eruptive call to arms of where the revolution goes next.

Returning with a bang, Circa Waves are a band born for those moments when thousands sing along and throw themselves into every note. Lead by the dynamic Kieran Shuddall, second album ‘Different Creatures’ landed earlier this year, laying down their ambitions with a dangerous and powerful collection of tracks that signalled their next step. With favourites such as ‘T-Shirt Weather’, ‘Wake Up’, ‘Stuck In My Teeth’, ‘Fire That Burns’ and ‘Young Chasers’ bound to go off in fevered frenzy, the indie-kings will be proving their crown at Live At Leeds this year.

Renowned for shape-shifting and reinvention, The Horrors are a band in their prime. Since forming in 2005, their every move has been captivating – jumping from the rawness of debut album ‘Strange House’ to famed classic ‘Primary Colours’ to the panoramic prowess of ‘Skying’ and the bristling pop-climbs of ‘Luminous’, they’re a band that can’t be pinned down. Their latest album ‘V’ received vast critical acclaim when released, standing as one of the albums of 2017. With a ferocious and visceral live-show to boot, The Horrors are an essential band of our times, and a must-watch at Live At Leeds.

Unparalleled when it comes to hosting the future global superstars across Leeds City Centre, this year is no different at Live At Leeds – with the revered BBC Sound Of… list heavily represented at the festival. No new band may be bigger than Pale Waves, who’ve become the most talked-about emerging act on the planet with just three singles released into the world. Combining sublime pop hooks with a 1975-esque knack for shimmering darkness, they’ve already garnered a devoted and loyal following. With magazine covers, sold-out shows and more already streaming from them – Pale Waves are a sensation that’ll be reaching fever-pitch by the time Live At Leeds comes around. Likewise also set for a mammoth 2018 are fellow ‘Sound Of…’ picks Tom Walker and Lewis Capaldi. Writing emotional tales of life and love, Tom Walker has seen the globe over the past year, with TV appearances, devoted evenings of adoration and over 70 millions streams to his name. Expect him to be on the verge of chart dominance by the time Live At Leeds opens its doors . Scotland’s Lewis Capaldi has seen plaudits and 2018 nods flowing in all directions. Delicately raw, he’s been taken into the hearts of the nation – with a sold out tour set to round out 2017 in style. 2018 is primed to be the year Lewis Capaldi goes big, following on from his slot at Live At Leeds’ Ones To Watch event in November – where he was joined on the bill by Sam Fender, also announced for Live At Leeds 2018. With a gritty melodic heart, he’s destined to become a crowd favourite thousands will sing along with, building on his early releases and into the new year. Live At Leeds once again has its finger firmly on the pulse of the new music world, with the most exciting names going heading to Leeds city centre in 2018.

Tom Walker said:

“This will be my third year playing Live at Leeds. Last year I wasn’t sure what to expect but the venue ended up packed out and people were struggling to get in, it was such a sick show! It’s an honour to be invited back to play for 2018, can’t wait!”

The band behind one of the most acclaimed indie releases of the year, Blaenavon are on a sensational path. Melting carefully crafted hooks with infectious guitar-laden anthems, the trio have become one of the breakthrough bands of the past 12 months, with debut album ‘That’s Your Lot’ leading to them headlining bigger and bigger venues. Expect their set at Live At Leeds to be a congregation of future brilliance. Spring King are a band built on a phenomenal live presence. Debut album ‘Tell Me If You Like To’ signalled the arrival of a band who revel in kicking down the front door with their infectious garage-indie sound, and with new music teased for next year, their set at Live At Leeds is the start of a new era, built on the past. Equally building on an incredible journey so far is cult icons British Sea Power, bringing a rich legacy to the festival with a set ready to challenge and charm at the same time.

James Green of Spring King said:

“We’ve been lucky enough to play Live at Leeds a few times before, and it’s never disappointed. It’s an amazing city and consistently one of our favourite festivals –  we can’t wait to play again this year!”

Making their way through the ranks in 2017 and now geared for a dazzling 2018, Anteros are a band the world should know about. With a glam-soaked cannon of glitter, pop-chimes and style, the likes of ‘Bonnie’, ‘Drunk’ and the self-titled ‘Anteros’ are the sort of tracks that straight-away make their home in your ears, and their set is sure to be a bountiful moment of stars in the making. Making his step into stardom, Will Heard will head to Live At Leeds next year with his soulful take on jazz set to invade the pop charts. With an unprecedented voice that’s bound to be heard across the airwaves in the years ahead, Live At Leeds is a chance to witness his talent in the flesh, first.

Across the spectrum, Live At Leeds delivers. Whether it’s the grunge-pop kicks of Bloxx who’ve been tipped by the likes of Sundara Karma and INHEAVEN to break through next, the street-pop realness of Suzi Wu, the swooning garage-indie of Irish trio whenyoung, the menacing heavy-hooks of The Pale White or the sublime voice of Grace Carter (whose breakthrough statement ‘Silence’ points to a huge future) – Live At Leeds has something for everyone. Londoners Stereo Honey are another act destined to be the talk of indie-lovers around the globe, with tight melodies and gorgeous dream-pop anthems ready and waiting, something they have in common with Australia’s Hockey Dad bringing the sun-kissed gleams to Live At Leeds for what’s sure to be one of the most infectious sets of the festival.

Anteros said:

“Live at Leeds is one of the first festivals we ever played. We’re very excited to be coming back.”

‘Ones To Watch’ alumni The Pale White said:

“Live at Leeds was one of our highlights of 2017, a proper rowdy crowd who were up for it from the off. The festival is known for giving really great emerging artists a platform so we were incredibly flattered to be asked to headline their Ones to Watch 2018 showcase. We can’t wait to hit the festival again and bring some brand new songs with us.”

Suzi Wu said:

“I’m very excited to come up to Live at Leeds in May. It’ll be my first time visiting the city and I get to play… what madness!”

From former Kaiser Chiefs titan Nick J.D Hodgson embarking on his stunning solo career, to the gifted warm-synths of Naaz, the sizzling kicks of White Room, the North London swagger of Sons Of Raphael and the direct rips of Stillia and Babyteeth – there’s always something seismic around the corner, waiting to be discovered. The landmark destination for 2018’s soundtrack, Live At Leeds is once again essential.

Leeds’ legend Nick J.D Hodgson said:

Rising local favourites Peakes said:

Speaking about Live At Leeds 2018, Festival Director Andy Smith said:

“After arguably our strongest year for the festival in 2017, we’re excited to announce the first of many artist names for Live at Leeds 2018.

The festival has always been about showcasing new music and offering emerging artists a platform to build their audience in the North and this year is no different.

Joining the bill for 2018 we see acts included on the BBC Sound of 2018 longlist in Pale Waves, Sam Fender, Tom Walker and Lewis Capaldi, hotly tipped local artists like GRDNS and Peakes and hyped acts such as Blaenavon, Will Heard and Anteros. And of course, as always, we have a great selection of established and respected artists heading up the bill, like Circa Waves, Peace, British Sea Power and The Horrors. Firmly placed as the first festival of summer, this year will once again be an excellent demonstration of the must see artists of 2018- we hope you can join us to discover your new favourite band.”
