Just ten more weekends before BLOODSTOCK!

Time is zipping past and there are now just ten more weekends before BLOODSTOCK!  Have you planned your travel and dusted off your tent?  BOA HQ is busy with preparations, site visits are underway and we’ve confirmed nine more bands and a whopping 26 more club nights!

Lining up for a Sunday slot on the Sophie Lancaster stage are PUPPY.  Freshly signed to Spinefarm, the hotly tipped band were recently chosen to open for CKY on their comeback tour.  The band tell us “We’re beyond excited to be playing Bloodstock. Every year we’re in awe of how good the line up is, so for them to ask us to jump on board is a real privilege.  See you guys in the pit for Megadeth!”  Check out their recent video for ‘Beast’ here – https://youtu.be/r8LvjC26pfw.

Grabbing a Saturday Sophie slot are much lauded Londoners, THE ONE HUNDRED. Their new album ‘Chaos + Bliss’ comes out on 2nd June via Spinefarm.  Watch their latest video for ‘Monster’ at https://youtu.be/hP_nIAVAKbE.  Frontman Jacob tells us, “BLOODSTOCK is one of the finest heavy music festivals on the circuit and we are excited to be joining an already amazing lineup.  See you in August!”  Also appearing on Saturday are Welsh rockers, FLORENCE BLACK.  Get a handle on their sound with the video for ‘The One’ – https://youtu.be/29gpEAHm58E – and check out their new ‘EP II’ at iTunes or Spotify.  Midlands thrash animals, ERADIKATOR also join the Saturday bill.  Check out their lyric video for ‘Astral Body’ – https://youtu.be/iUSQ265xorw – taken from their 2015 album, ‘Edge of Humanity’.

Last seen at BLOODSTOCK on the Jagermeister stage in 2015, Reading stoner/sludge squad MORASS OF MOLASSES bring their swamp and groove filled riffs to the Sophie stage on Friday.  Get to grips with ‘My Leviathan’ at https://youtu.be/F_cTjECbvZA.

We’ve also locked down the undercard for Thursday night’s party night bill, below that night’s headliners, BATTLE BEAST.  We welcome back ‘Metal 2 The Masses’ alumni, RAMAGE INC. to open the weekend’s proceedings!  Check out the tech metallers’ ‘Within Circles’ over on their YouTube channel – https://youtu.be/v_bC0L4Lc1g.  Party doomsters, GURT also land a slot.  Get a taste of their sludge via this fan-filmed footage from their Edinburgh show late last year – https://youtu.be/8Zm0qCYCiHs.  THE INFERNAL SEA will bring their black metal noise to the bill.  If you’re not already familiar, watch the ‘Plague Herald’ video over at their record label Cacophonous’s YouTube – https://youtu.be/O4dyiNtIIfA.  Lastly, Italy’s WIND ROSE round out the Thursday bill with their ‘Lord of the Rings’-inspired dwarven folk metal.  Hear their track ‘To Erebor’ here – https://youtu.be/-qF1EQXIG1c.

The second phase of BLOODSTOCK club nights start on 2nd June!  Get along to one of the following events, bang your head to some tunes from BLOODSTOCK bands old and new, and be in with the chance of winning weekend tickets or related giveaways.  Expect fun ways to win – previous year’s events featured the likes of bucking broncos, endurance tests, and air guitaring!  Check your local club for details, as dates may be subject to change.  Events for June/July run as follows:

Michael Schenker announces “Michael Schenker Fest” November UK Tour with original M.S.G. vocalists

With the release of Michael Schenker Fest ‘Live’ Tokyo due on 24th March, Michael Schenker is proud to announce that he will be touring Michael Schenker Fest throughout Europe in October / November 2017, including four UK concerts taking in O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire, London (Thursday 2nd November), O2 Academy Sheffield (Friday 3rd November), O2 Ritz, Manchester (Saturday 4th November) and Hull City Hall (Sunday 5th November).

Says Schenker, “It’s a miracle that after all these years, a tour like this will take place with the original band members of “M.S.G.”. Being able to go back to those days and celebrate the music is an exciting experience for us, as well as for old and new fans. To being able to re-experience, and for the new audience to get a feel of what it was like, is incredibly enjoyable.”

Continues Schenker, “It’s an amazing feeling to have all of my M.S.G. Family from the ’80’s performing together and especially with Graham Bonnet, who I never got to play any concerts after our Assault Attack album that was originally released in 1982.  Fortunately, being able to have the participation of original M.S.G. members including Gary Barden, Chris Glen (bass) and Ted McKenna (drums) being part of it, and to perform with Robin McAuley and Steve Mann (guitar, keyboards) again as well, is pretty awesome.”

MICHAEL SCHENKER FEST “LIVE” TOKYO DVD Review

There are only a few rock legends that have had a career spanning over 40 years, who continue to write music and play live with the same enthusiasm and vigour as Michael Schenker.

My first introduction to guitar legend, Michael Schenker was via my brother, when I was 12 years old and heard MSG’s first album Armed and Ready. From that moment I was hooked and Michael Schenker is, and always will be, my first true guitar hero.

The release of the Michael Schenker Fest “Live” Tokyo is a fantastic reflection on the highlights of MSG’s existence. It’s a wonderful opportunity to see the finest tracks brought to life again with the original vocalists and band members of the time. With Gary Barden, Graham Bonnet and Robin McAuley on vocals and the band made up of Ted McKenna (Drums) Chris Glen (Bass) and Steve Mann (Guitars and Keyboard) delivering the ever solid platform for Michael’s melodic virtuosity!

Michael Schenker Fest Live Tokyo_2_smallers

The grand intro music of ‘Searching For Freedom’ provides a fitting backdrop to the bands entrance as they burst straight into a Schenker instrumental classic, ‘Into The Arena’. With the excitement tangible and evident on every band members face, the Tokyo crowd were in for a night to remember.

Gary Barden + Michael Schenker_smallers

Gary Barden is the first of the original vocalists to take the singing and chanting crowd through those early MSG classics such as ‘Attack Of The Mad Axeman’ and ‘Let Sleeping Dogs Lie’. Michael Schenker was clearly relishing every moment and demonstrating the tone, feel and  fretboard finesse that defines him as one of the finest guitarists in rock history.

Graham Bonnet + Michael Schenker_crop

The Michael Schenker Fest Live Tokyo gives us a rare glimpse of Graham Bonnet and Michael Schenker reunited to perform the hits off the album ‘Assault Attack’, including ‘Dancer’ and ‘Desert song’. The UK tour supporting that album was the first time I had seen MSG live, but alas not with Graham. With the classic Bonnet smooth demeanour of suit, shades and slick back hair easing through his set.

Michael’s instrumental interludes give fans more opportunity to witness his amazing ability to write well crafted songs with soaring guitar melodies that captivate all budding guitar players, old and new!

Robin McAuley + Michael Schenker

Robin McAuley takes to the stage and rifles through the ‘McAuley Schenker Group’ era songs including the brilliant ‘Save Yourself’ and ‘Love is Not A Game’ with his strong and powerful vocal style. He then took  the crowd back to those instantly recognisable UFO classics of ‘Shoot Shoot’ and ‘Rock Bottom’.

The grand finale of the night, the legendary UFO song ‘Doctor Doctor’ sees all three vocalists performing together, a hearty rendition of an all time classic, leaving the Tokyo crowd in awe of what they had witnessed.

Michael Schenker Fest “Live” Tokyo is a must for all MSG fans everywhere, bringing you the best of the MSG years. Michael Schenker continues to prove that his class is timeless.

Bloodstock 2017 unleashes four more bands!

BLOODSTOCK is powering ahead with even more bookings for 2017!  We’ve four more to get you excited for August’s best metal weekender…

German thrash legends KREATOR shred their way on to BLOODSTOCK’s main stage this Summer in Saturday’s special guest spot!  Vocalist/guitarist Mille Petrozza declares, “We are happy to finally return to BLOODSTOCK!  KREATOR will give you the full treatment this time.  WE SHALL KILL.”  The band released their fourteenth studio album, ‘Gods of Violence’ in January via Nuclear Blast.  Check out the video for the title track at: https://youtu.be/xeUBJ2Ha-FM and get up to speed on all things KREATOR over at: https://www.facebook.com/KreatorOfficial/.

Flint firebrands KING 810 land a Ronnie James Dio main stage slot on Saturday in a UK festival exclusive, so will be your only chance to catch the band on these shores this summer!  Their genre-busting album, ‘La Petite Mort (Or A Conversation With God)’ was hugely lauded upon release last year, with leading US outlet, Metal Injection pronouncing it “2016’s best example of what an album should be”.  Check out their visceral video for ‘Alpha & Omega’ – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gcLmQDr7GGw.

Black metal marauders INQUISITION will headline the Sophie Lancaster stage on Friday.  The duo of Dagon and Incubus released their seventh album, ‘Bloodshed Across The Empyrean Altar Beyond The Celestial Zenith’ via Season Of Mist last August.  Listen to ‘Wings Of Anu’ from that disc at https://youtu.be/UGdbsGFrvbY and prepare for a ferocious finish to Friday night.

Lastly, KING PARROT fly in from their Aussie homeland for a Sophie stage slot. The self-dubbed “grindin’, thrashin’, punk wrecking machine” are on the road in support of their Phil Anselmo-produced disc, ‘Dead Set’.  Lend your ears at https://agoniarecords.bandcamp.com/album/dead-set, or watch their 2012 video for ‘Shit On The Liver’ at https://youtu.be/cinvIr-O1k8 – it was a finalist in the Australian Music Video Awards and has racked up nearly half a million YouTube views!  Learn more Parrot at www.facebook.com/kingparrotband/.

Check out BLOODSTOCK’s latest video trailer here and get excited for August!

Meanwhile, back at BOA HQ, we received some awesome news about ‘The Beast of Bloodstock’, our very own ale brewed by The Boot Beer microbrewery in Repton, Derbyshire.  It scooped the Gold Award in the CAMRA East Midlands Champion Beer of Britain ‘Strong Ale’ category!  ‘The Beast…’ at 6.66% alcohol is a hefty beast but has a luscious, dark chocolate and caramel character.  Now you want one, huh?!  If you like a strong ale, check it out and follow The Boot Beer’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/TheBootBeer.

THE DEAD DAISIES TO RELEASE LIVE CD/DVD -‘LIVE AND LOUDER’

‘Live And Louder’, The Dead Daisies’ highly-anticipated live outing, set for release on May 19th on Spitfire Music / SPV, perfectly captures the awesome vibe of their supreme, sweat drenched, roof-raising live sets, recorded on a heady high at the end of an unbelievable 2016.

From the moment they dropped their first single ‘Long Way To Go’ ahead of their European Festival Summer in June, the hits just kept on coming. The 2nd single ‘Join Together’ ramped up the release of the third studio album ‘Make Some Noise’. The band were well underway touring the USA with KISS, a tour that finished with a sold-out headline show at LA’s prestigious Whisky A Go-Go.

The next single ‘Song And A Prayer’, was released with an accompanying short-film, refocused attention and rang in the final, massive touring phase of the year which saw the band go to Japan for the first time, where they immediately became media and fan darlings and went down a storm at the world-famous Loud Park festival. A string of dates in Korea for the USO and, as the year’s grand finale, a massive UK & European Co-Headline Tour that played 30+ shows to sold-out venues.

The ‘Daisies’ as they are affectionately referred to by their fans, quickly became people’s favourite live band with their relentless energy, stellar musicianship and unabashed joy in bringing the rock back into roll. The big question at signing sessions after each show and on the band’s social media channels continued to be: “When will there be a live album?”. People simply could not get enough of them live.

Not to turn down a good opportunity, the band recorded a number of shows on the UK & European Tour and, with the team that already made ‘Make Some Noise’ blow speakers worldwide. The album was mixed by Anthony Focx (Aerosmith, Bad Company, Metallica, Santana) at Focxhole Studios and mastered by Howie Weinberg. They assembled a true monster in the vein of the great Live Albums of the 70s. You can feel the sweat drip from the ceilings, the energy of the crowd becoming one with the band, screaming, hollering and forgetting about the often mundane reality for a night of true Rock’n’Roll. Warts ’n all, ‘LIVE & LOUDER’ is a document of a band in their prime, a raw slice of visceral energy, an in-your-face assault on the senses. Simply: THE DEAD DAISIES in their element and at their best!

Lead singer John Corabi adds: “We’re extremely excited and proud of our new album ‘LIVE & LOUDER’!!! A lot of the fans have been writing to us and saying how much they LOVED our records but were even more blown away by the band live!!! So this documents our last U.K./European tour, and also shows the world how truly loud and supportive The Dead Daisies fans are!!!! Thank you and Turn It Up!!!!”

‘LIVE & LOUDER’ will be released in a number of different, exciting formats. Again, the band listened to what the fans wanted and added a spectacular vinyl as well as a limited-edition box set that features, among other cool trinkets, an exclusive 7” vinyl single recorded at The Zoo at Planet Rock Radio’s highly coveted London fan-only gig in November 2016.

 “LIVE & LOUDER” Formats:

DIGIPAK (Contains CD & DVD & massive photo booklet. The DVD features an exclusive “Live & Louder”-Documentary, a massive “Make Some Noise World Tour”-Documentary, all music videos of the “Make Some Noise” album cycle and a picture gallery)

Reading and Leeds have confirmed Eminem as the final headliner for this year’s festivals, taking place on 25 – 27 August 2017 at Richfield Avenue, Reading and Bramham Park, Leeds.  Tickets are available here.

Consistently seen as one of the greatest rappers of all time, Eminem is not only a titan in hip-hop but in modern culture itself. One of the biggest selling artists of the 21st century, his razor-sharp wit and impeccable larger than life anthems continue to defy boundaries, with the likes of ‘Lose Yourself’, ‘My Name Is’, ’Not Afraid’ and ‘The Monster’ all storming charts and record collections around the world. His return to Reading and Leeds marks an extremely rare opportunity to witness an icon in the flesh, with a set that’ll add another legendary chapter to the story of Eminem.

Melvin Benn commented: “Eminem returning to Reading and Leeds is beyond exciting. His 2013 headline performance was incredible and I can’t want to have him back. In addition to our third and final headliner (joining Kasabian and Muse) we’ve announced over 70 additional acts to this year’s line up – it’s looking stronger than ever.”

‘Bad and Boujee’ hip-hop superstars Migos will return to the UK this summer, with a huge appearance lined up at Reading & Leeds. One of the most talked-about groups of the year; the trio have become global symbols of a new wave of modern rap following the release of their latest album C U L T U R E. Expect a swagger-filled performance as Migos make their way to Reading & Leeds.

South London rapper Giggs will continue his march to the top with an unparalleled set at this year’s festivals, bringing the gritty sounds of latest album Landlord to the fields, in a crowning moment for one of the genre’s most defiant voices.

One of the most hotly anticipated returns of the year, HAIM are set to land at Reading and Leeds this summer with a sun-soaked guitar-pop filled performance. Delving into classics from their 2013 debut Days Are Gone and sure-to-be hits from their upcoming new record, it’ll be unforgettable set as rock’s beloved sensations take to the Reading and Leeds stage.

British arena-rock kings You Me At Six will continue their rich history at Reading and Leeds, packing in anthems from their career along with the heavy kicks of latest album Night People. A band born for the biggest stages, Reading and Leeds is set to bear witness to a landmark step from a band that stand head and shoulders above the rest.

A standout success story of 2016, Blossoms have established themselves as national treasures with the release of their self-titled debut, storming to number 1 in the charts and leading to sold-out venues and huge stages wherever they go. Stockport’s finest are set to bring their pop-laden anthems to Reading and Leeds this summer in a performance that marks the next generation of arena-sized icons.

Following the monumental news last week that Madina Lake are reforming to play Slam Dunk Festival 2017 to mark their 10th anniversary, we are pumped to reveal a whole host of new acts joining the bill.

Added to the already stellar line up are alt-rock stars Deaf Havana, punk powerhouse Frank Iero and the Patience and rock favourites We Are The Ocean, in addition to The Maine, Crime in Stereo, Sorority Noise, Too Close To Touch, WSTR, Seaway, Boston Manor and Stray From The Path.

The last few years have been busy for Deaf Havana, having supported Bruce Springsteen and broken into the UK Top 10. But 2017 is set to be even bigger, as in January they released their fourth studio album ‘All These Countless Nights’, announced their much anticipated international tour, and are now revealed to play Slam Dunk Festival 2017!

Formed by the former guitarist for My Chemical Romance, Frank Iero and the Patience is a punk rock band taking the world by storm, having toured with the likes of the Used, Taking Back Sunday and Mallory Knox. With a handful of UK dates this month, they return this summer for their Slam Dunk Festival debut.

We Are The Ocean’s performance at Slam Dunk Festival 2017 will be bittersweet, given the emotional news that they will be calling it quits this year. But we are over the moon that their last ever shows will be with us, as they are a firm Slam Dunk favourite, and have played the festival more times than any other band. Hold tight, it’s going to be an emotional rollercoaster but a fitting last hurrah.

Arizona’s heartthrobs The Maine also join the line-up, and will no doubt bring with them new material from their upcoming album Lovely, Little, Lonely set to drop in April this year.

The Maine’s John O’Callaghan says:
“The British aren’t necessarily known for their basketball prowess, but they are known for their domination over rock n roll. Which is why we can’t wait to score a homerun and shoot a touchdown at Slam Dunk with this gnarly lineup.”

Also announced today are Crime in Stereo, Long Island’s answer to hardcore punk, Connecticut’s Sorority Noise who will bring their anthemic brand of emo to the festival, and Too Close To Touch – whose solid blend of pop and post-hardcore will get crowds going.

UK pop-punk new bloods WSTR will join Canadian heavyweights Seaway and homegrown front-runners Boston Manor in one of the most highly-anticipated appearances this summer. Bringing the heavy, Long Island metalcore titans Stray From The Path will also be appearing across the weekend.

On their return to the festival, Henry Cox of Boston Manor says:
“We’re really looking forward to playing this year’s Slam Dunk. The festival last year was a real highlight for us. This year is going to be more sweaty and more intense.”

A nationwide invitation to party in the name of the alternative, Slam Dunk Festival is rite of passage for lovers of pop-punk and rock music and is a key date in the festival calendar. Kicking off in Birmingham on May 27th, the festival will travel to Leeds on May 28th before finishing up in Hatfield on May 29th, once again ensuring the Slam Dunk Bank Holiday Weekend is the only place to be to catch all your favourite bands.

Slam Dunk is set to get even bigger and better in 2017 with the addition of the First Direct Arena in Leeds as the second stage, a second outdoor stage in Hatfield and an expanded site in Birmingham, ensuring more die-hard fans can savour the Slam Dunk experience than ever before. With tickets on sale now, and still more acts to be announced, Slam Dunk Festival is set to define 2017 with the ultimate alternative party of the summer.
